The Perfect Dress | |
| I have a shameful addiction. I love all Bravo reality shows. The great ones like "Project Runway" and "Top Chef." And, yes, even the cheesy ones like "Housewives." Yesterday, one of the NY housewives said this, "I don't like shopping, I like buying." There it is. She hit it on the nail! I don't want to make appointments at different boutiques to discuss my weight plans and marriage dreams with some consultant. I know many women enjoy that. They like the pampering, they like the details. But I just want to put something on, decide if it fits okay, check the price tag, and be done with it! I made the mistake of assuming that David's Bridal would be a more casual place for dress shopping. It wasn't. It requires all the same things that other boutiques require (appointments and discussions on weight), but in a larger and much more chaotic environment. My MOH and I were just overwhelmed when we visited over the weekend. Too many women were there, tripping over each other in the aisles, countless dresses guarded in plastic (none, unfortunately, which wowed me), and harried consultants running from one end of the warehouse-like room to another carrying 10 times their weight in dresses. It was too much. We left after 20 minutes of casual browsing and the next day I made an appointment at the boutique that's carrying the dress I marked in Modern Bride. If I have to deal with the requirements of proper wedding gown buying, I'm going to get my money's worth and go to a place that is quiet and elegant. I'm not knocking David's Bridal though. Some of their bridesmaid items were lovely and at great prices. And, like anywhere, if they have the dress you want, they're the place to go. I will probably go back for bridesmaid gowns later, but definitely NOT on a weekend. Women scrambling for on-sale wedding gowns are more frightening than the time I was chased down by a pack of dogs. | |
