Links
Below are sites that help explain the tradition of a Chinese wedding in a much more eloquent and educated way than either Tommy and Joyce are able to articulate. In fact, they learned a few things from them themselves...
Chinese Wedding Foods
The Chinese Historical and Cultural Project site has many interesting facts regarding Chinese culture. The particular link below explains the reasoning behind some of the dishes served at a Chinese wedding banquet.
Chinese Wedding Customs
This site gives an extensive overview of past and present traditions of a Chinese wedding. Not everything on the list will be performed by Tommy and Joyce. After all, they're ABCs.
The Bride's Dresses
This site also gives an overview of the customs for the entire wedding process, but Joyce recommends skipping down to the part titled, "Chinese Wedding Dress," since that is something she will be doing in particular during the banquet.
Tea Ceremony
This event will take place privately among family, but pictures will be available after all of the craziness has passed, in case you're curious what went about at the house with the pig.
Lucky Numbers
Joyce has blogged about this, but here is a site with a brief overview of Chinese lucky numbers. (Thus, the date of our wedding--888. And 898.)
Red Envelopes
A wonderful explanation of the history of red pockets and their significance in Chinese culture.
Chinese Wedding Taboos
No socks on banquet night or bad luck for one year!
Just kidding.
But there are definitely some interesting taboos that have actived the superstitious bones in Joyce's and Tommy's bodies.
