Our Story
How We Met
The "how we met" story isn't all that romantic but the others are!
I was working at a warehouse and I didn't have a car so my mom was taking me to and from work. I worked from like three in the afternoon to one in the morning. I had seen Robert there but never really said anything to him. One night my mom was running late and I was standing outside waiting for her, I guess he noticed because he stuck around for a few minutes until almost everyone had left. He asked me if I had a ride home and I told him my mom was supposed to be coming, so he offered to let me use his cell phone. I called her and she had just got up and said she was on her way. I told Rob she was coming so he asked how far away she was and I told him, and he said he would wait with me because everyone else was gone and he didn't want me to stand outside alone until she got there. We sat there in his truck and talked for the 30 minutes or so until my mom got there. While we were talking the kids came up and we were talking about dating in general and I told him that I didn't really date much because most guys in their 20's pretty much run in the other direction once you tell them you have two kids. So he replied "Not all guys care about that", so I said "really well that has been my experience" then he said "well you just haven't found the right guy yet." Of course that is the moment I knew he was the guy for me, but I didn't say so at the time. shortly after that my mom got there. It turns out the next night she was late again and I called (off of his phone) and when she said she just woke up Rob offered to give me a ride home- and did every night after that!
Officially Boyfriend and Girlfriend
We went out many times and I had casually brought up "officially dating", but several times he had said he "didn't want to rush anything" and "let's just see what happens", but after about a month I was in the car with my mom and she asked who I was talking to and I said "my friend" exaggarating the word friend, and then without pause he said "oh so that's all I am? your friend? I thought I was your boyfriend..." and that was that we were official!
The first "I love you"
After a couple of months of dating I knew I was in love. With a guy as great as he is it just doesn't take long! I was talking to another guy that we worked with and I was trying to decide if I should tell him or not. I kind of had a good angel bad angel thing going on- I thought it was kind of early and I didn't want him to freak out, but at the same time I knew how I felt and wanted him to know. So I was talking to a friend and asking his opinion and he said well, if you want to tell him but you don't know what he will think just say it like you are joking and gauge his reaction... So I took a deep breath and went back to shipping where he worked. I think I was working over there that day for some reason, so we were doing something and he made a remark that I don't remember and so I said very sarcastically "gee thanks I love you too..." after a second he said "what did you say?" and I said "nothing" and he said "no really what did you say?" and so I said " umm I said I love you too" without thinking it through to realize the cliche he said "ditto" ( he claims to this day that Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in the movie ghost were no where near his mind! haha) I probably turned as red as a stop sign and I don't think I stopped smiling for a week! After that we said it all the time!
