How They Met

They first met on their fisrt day at York St. John University.
They were standing in the 'delightful' communal kitchen when Amy offered Gordon a biscuit from Aunty Bobby's tin and Gordon was happy to accept a 'Rocky'!
They 'admired each other from afar' for around 2 years and were passing friends until...

Getting Together

On 25th September 2002 in the beginning of Gordon's final year and Amy's third their paths crossed at the Gallery Nightclub in York. Chatting turned into dancing and dancing into more chatting and finally chatting into a little kiss!! They rest as they say is history!

Some Background to the Proposal!

Now, before we mention the proposal it is important to know that Gordon has been a mean person on many occasion prior with fake proposals!!! Yes fake ones trying to make Amy panic!! He once faked proposed in a restaurant pretending to look fro something in his jacket pocket while telling Amy how he loved her etc, only to pull out his wallet and say 'I'm paying!!' This being one of many 'panic and pretend proposals!' This is being written so you can understand Amy's initial response to the real proposal!!!

The Proposal

Despite Amy often suggesting no proposal ever Gordon was still brave enough to take the plunge!...the fool!!
It all started on a routine Sunday when Amy and Gordon were having Sunday lunch with Amy's family when Gordon took a nerve racking walk up the stairs to see Les (Amy's Dad) in the study. When asked 'Can I marry Amy?' Les replied in stunned slurs! Unable to keep secrets from Sharon (Amy's Mam) he immediately shook Gordon's hand and shouted for Sharon to come up stairs...and bring the whisky!! Sharon was over the moon and cried into her tea towel!! After the three enjoyed celebratory whisky together in the garden Amy returned back to the house after a visit to her nana and Sharon swiftly necked the remaining whisky and hid the evidence in the watering can!!!

Later that month Amy and Gordon took a camping trip to the Lakes with best friends Emma (Amy's Sister and Chief Bridesmaid) and Peter (Emma's husband and Gordon's Best Friend/Man!)
After enjoying a delightfully sunny Saturday the four of them had a terrible nights sleep and woke up early, very tired and grumpy! It was a rainy Sunday and the four of them spent the day in Keswick avoiding the rain in the pub!
On the way back to the camp site they stopped off at Derwent water front for a walk. Beasley (the dog!) ran around in the water while Gordon was shivering profusely (Amy just thought he was a wimp in the cold!) They set off to walk up the hillside when Gordon asked Amy to hold back. He said 'You know I love you?' and Amy thought she knew what was coming so replied with 'Oh Gordon its too cold for you to fake propose again...sod off!' (Terrible I know! But surely it's understandable!?) But shaking Gordon pulled a ring box out of his pocket and told Amy how much he loved her and opened the box asking 'will you marry me' Amy spun around and cried and replied 'Have you asked my Dad?!!' After finding Gordon had asked Les Amy then answered 'Of course I will!'
